Underwriting Manager


Job Location: Ewing, NJ or Pittsburgh, PA preferred (REMOTE considered)

We’re looking for someone who is an outstanding leader and closing manager, not just “good enough.” This person will lead the Underwriting Department and first and foremost maintain a top performing team that can deliver outstanding results. On the technical side, this person must be able to make tough decisions and be a subject matter expert in handling and resolving complex loan requests and issues. When it comes to questions and problems with underwriting, the buck stops with this person.

Princeton Mortgage grew production from $600M in 2019 to an annualized volume of $1,500M. We plan to grow even more in 2021, and reach 50,000 loans per year by 2028.

Lead the underwriting team to achieve the following results:

  • Internal Team NPS Score > 90

  • Each team member able to maintain pipeline of 45 loans comfortably

  • Avg. # new underwrites per day = 3

  • New underwrite turn times < 24-hours 90% of the time

  • Condition turn times < 24-hours 90% of the time

  • Post-Closing Errors < 5%

  • Significant QC Findings < 0.25%


Note: Our ideal candidate has mortgage experience as described below, but we’re willing to waive all of our mortgage related qualifications for the right person who has huge amounts of innate ability and a track record of management / leadership success in operations, engineering, logistics, or manufacturing. We hire for culture fit and innate ability first, technical skills second.

  • Minimum 10 years mortgage underwriting experience with active front line underwriting knowledge of Conventional, FHA, VA and USDA loans.

  • Minimum 3 years successful managerial experience of growing a team.

  • Solid knowledge of FNMA, FHLMC, FHA, VA and USDA secondary marketing guidelines.

  • Direct Endorsement with current CHUM number, VA LAPP Certification
